Ranked-Choice Voting
Understanding Portland’s new process for electing officials
If you live in Portland, you might be surprised that your ballot looks a little different for the 2024 General Election than it has in the past. That’s because of Ranked-Choice Voting, Portland’s new voting process that gives city residents the chance to vote for more than one candidate and lets people share more about who they want to win.
How Does Ranked-Choice Voting Work?
It’s easy! Voters simply rank their favorite candidate first, followed by any others they support in the order they like them. If you don’t like a candidate, you shouldn’t rank them! Remember, ranking a candidate means you support them. You should only rank candidates you like — whether it’s one, two, three, or more.
