President Obama Appoints Susana Ramirez to the President’s Committee for People with Intellectual Disabilities (PCPID)
President Barack Obama announced 15 new members appointed to the President’s Committee for People with Intellectual Disabilities (PCPID). Among the 15 members is Susana Ramirez, Special Education Advocate here at DRO. Susana's responsibilities include individual representation of students in special education, policy advocacy, and working closely with the Latino community by providing individual rights trainings in Spanish. She has held gubernatorial appointments in the Oregon Council on Developmental Disabilities, Oregon State Advisory Council of Special Education, and the Oregon Special Education Task Force. Susana has been a guest lecturer at the University of Oregon Law School and Portland State University, College of Education. In 2000, she received the Advocate of the Year Award from the Oregon Council on Developmental Disabilities, for her work establishing Padres en Accion, a parent group focused on advocating for the rights of Latino children with disabilities and their families. She is the mother of three sons, one of whom has an intellectual disability.

About the President’s Committee for People with Intellectual Disabilities (PCPID)
The mission of PCPID is to provide advice and assistance to the President of the United States and the Secretary of Health and Human Services on a broad range of topics that impact people with intellectual disabilities and the field of Intellectual Disabilities. Undergirding the Committee’s mission is the goal to improve the quality of life that is experienced by people with intellectual disabilities, by upholding their full citizenship rights, independence, self-determination, and life-long participation in their respective communities.
